Golden Rule #1: a quick solution to last minute outfit styling!

Golden Rule #1: a quick solution to last minute outfit styling!

Trying to style an outfit last minute for an event but:

  • You can’t find matching blouses to sarees?

  • You found a matching blouse but it doesn’t fit anymore because you are happy married (or happier single) and have gained weight.

  • OR you just give up and would rather have your partner pick out pieces and assemble an outfit for you?

When in doubt - go golden! A golden blouse is a wardrobe essential that can be paired and incorporated with any Indian outfit. Investing in golden blouses will save you years of “what to wear” situations. Here are two ‘mix-and match’ outfits I put together using a golden blouse.

Outfit #1

I paired this saree with a golden keyhole blouse, which has black piping bordering the blouse. I usually add piping to all my golden blouses. Stitching golden blouses with generic coloured piping (i.e. red, black, pink and green) will definitely be your go-to blouse for all sarees. I have one golden blouse without any piping, which makes it super versatile for any saree/outfit as well.

The original blouse that came with this saree is the same material, colour and pattern as the pallu of this saree. In my opinion- a golden blouse is the perfect contrast for this saree!

A tip for ladies that share sarees with their moms/ mom-in-laws: get two blouse stitched for the same saree- one blouse for mom and the other for yourself. If you don’t want the same colours and want to step out of the classics, try a contrasting blouse, which is what I have done for this look!

Outfit #2

This saree with a gorgeous thick zari-border is courtesy of my mother in-law! The black and gold combination never gets old which is why I opted for a golden blouse for this saree. A contrasting red would look equally as gorgeous with this saree but for the purposes of this post, I decided to go with the gold.

Have you ever heard “over planning kills the magic?” SLR Infinity’s spontaneous (and of course my spontaneous agreement) to go to a construction site for photos saved this saree from a mud bath! We initially went to a conservation area but due to the sudden snowmelt- the area was swamped with mud and melt water. Go out there and make spontaneous decisions!

I live by the ‘Golden Rule’! And so did Sri Devi. Here are two photos of her pairing what looks like the same golden blouse with two different sarees. Really saddened by her sudden death- may her soul rest in peace...
